Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about flashcards, podcasts, and practice exams

How does ExamTeX work?

Upload your course materials — lecture slides, textbook chapters, notes — and ExamTeX uses AI to generate three types of study tools: flashcard decks for active recall, audio podcasts for passive review, and LaTeX-formatted practice exams. Pick the one you need, or use all three.

What file types can I upload?

We support PDF, Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), plain text files, and audio/video files. The maximum file size is 20MB per file. You can upload multiple files at once to cover more material.

Does it support math and equations?

Yes. ExamTeX handles mathematical notation natively. Flashcards and practice exams render equations using KaTeX for in-browser preview and LaTeX for PDF export. Wrap any math in dollar signs (like $x^2 + y^2 = r^2$) and it renders correctly. This makes ExamTeX especially strong for STEM and quantitative subjects.

How do flashcards work?

AI analyzes your materials and generates a deck of question-and-answer flashcards. You study them using built-in spaced repetition, which schedules reviews based on how well you know each card — cards you struggle with appear more often. You can also take practice quizzes generated from your deck to test yourself before an exam.

What are audio podcasts?

AI converts your notes and course materials into a conversational audio format. Think of it as a study companion explaining the key concepts from your materials. Listen on your phone while commuting, exercising, or doing chores — it's a way to review without being at your desk.

How long does generation take?

Flashcard decks typically generate in 30 to 60 seconds. Audio podcasts and practice exams take a bit longer — usually 1 to 2 minutes depending on the length and complexity of your materials.

Is my material private?

Yes. Uploaded files are processed and then deleted immediately. We do not store your documents long-term, and your content is never used to train AI models. Your generated flashcards, podcasts, and exams are stored securely in your account and only you can access them. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

The Free plan gives you 10 flashcard decks, 5 practice exams, and 2 audio podcasts per month — enough to try everything out. Pro removes all limits: unlimited decks, exams, and podcasts, plus watermark-free PDF exports and priority support. See Pricing for current rates.

Can I share my flashcards?

Yes. Every flashcard deck has a shareable link you can send to classmates or study groups. They can view and study the deck without needing their own account.

Do I need an account?

No. You can try ExamTeX without signing up — just upload your materials and generate a flashcard deck. Creating a free account lets you save your decks, track your study progress, and access your content across devices.
