Learn how to create professional exams with ExamTeX
Getting Started
ExamTeX helps you create professional, LaTeX-formatted exams from your course materials. Here's how to get started:
1. Upload Your Materials
Drag and drop your lecture notes, textbook chapters, or slides. We support PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), and plain text files.
2. Configure Your Exam
Set the exam title, course name, date, and other details. Choose your subject area, difficulty level, and the types of questions you want.
3. Generate and Edit
Our AI analyzes your materials and generates questions. Review them in the editor, make changes as needed, and adjust settings.
4. Download Your PDF
Export a publication-quality PDF ready for printing or distribution.
Question Types
ExamTeX supports several question types:
Multiple Choice: Traditional A/B/C/D questions with automatic answer randomization.
Short Answer: Questions requiring brief written responses.
Calculation: Math problems with space for showing work.
Proof: Mathematical proofs with structured answer space.
Graph Analysis: Questions with economic or mathematical graphs.
Essay: Long-form response questions.
Editing Questions
After generation, you can fully customize your exam:
- Edit question text, answers, and point values
- Add, delete, or reorder questions
- Adjust answer space sizes
- Include or exclude answer keys
- Add custom instructions
Math Notation
ExamTeX uses LaTeX for mathematical notation. Wrap math in dollar signs:
- Inline math: $x^2 + y^2 = z^2$
- Fractions: $\frac{ a }{ b }$
- Subscripts: $P_D$, $Q_S$
- Greek letters: $\epsilon$, $\delta$
The editor shows a live preview of your math as you type.
Exam Settings
Customize the appearance of your exam:
Spacing: Choose compact, normal, or spacious layouts.
Font Size: Select 10pt, 11pt, or 12pt text.
Points: Show or hide point values on questions.
Answer Key: Generate a separate answer key.
Time Limit: Display exam duration in the header.
Tips for Best Results
Upload quality materials: Clear, well-organized course materials produce better questions.
Be specific with instructions: Use the additional instructions field to guide the AI (e.g., "Focus on Chapter 3" or "Include questions about elasticity").
Review generated content: Always verify mathematical accuracy and appropriateness for your course.
Start with fewer questions: It's easier to add questions than to remove many.
Supported Subjects
ExamTeX works best with quantitative subjects:
- Mathematics (calculus, algebra, statistics)
- Economics (micro, macro, econometrics)
- Finance (corporate finance, investments)
- Physics
- Other STEM fields
