Kinematics practice questions (A-Level Maths)
This mechanics topic covers displacement, velocity and acceleration, motion graphs, the constant acceleration (suvat) equations, vertical motion under gravity, variable acceleration using calculus, projectiles, and motion in two dimensions with vectors. There are no free sample questions on it yet, so this page gives 7 key terms with the formulas typeset, and a door to make an A-Level Maths-style paper on this topic from your own notes. The free exams are typeset PDFs with an answer key; the exam downloads without a signup.

Key terms
The definitions and formulas A-Level Maths expects for kinematics, typeset as they appear on the paper.
- Displacement, velocity and acceleration
- Vector quantities with direction, as opposed to distance and speed. Choose a positive direction at the start and keep every sign consistent with it.
- Constant acceleration equations
- The five suvat equations, in the formulae booklet. Each omits one of the five quantities; choose the one without the quantity you neither know nor want.
- Motion graphs
- On a velocity-time graph the gradient is acceleration and the area under the graph is displacement; on a displacement-time graph the gradient is velocity.
- Vertical motion under gravity
- Acceleration downward (use the value the question gives). At the highest point the velocity is zero; the time up equals the time down to the same height.
- Variable acceleration
- When acceleration is not constant, differentiate displacement to get velocity and velocity to get acceleration; integrate the other way, using initial conditions to find the constants.
- Projectiles
- Treat horizontal and vertical motion separately: constant horizontal velocity, constant downward acceleration . Time of flight comes from the vertical motion; range from the horizontal.
- Motion in two dimensions with vectors
- Position, velocity and acceleration written in , components. Differentiate or integrate each component; speed is the magnitude of the velocity vector.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free kinematics practice questions for A-Level Maths?
Not as a ready-made sample yet. The key terms on this page cover what A-Level Maths expects for kinematics. To practise it, open the generator with the A-Level Maths style, tick "Mechanics · Kinematics" and the questions are written from the A-Level outline for that topic; or upload your own notes on it.
How do I make an A-Level Maths practice paper on kinematics from my notes?
Open the create page with the A-Level Maths style preselected, tick "Mechanics · Kinematics" under the units to cover (or upload your notes and slides on it), choose the question mix and time limit, and generate. You get a typeset PDF in the A-Level format with a separate answer key, in about a minute. It is free to try, no card needed.
