IB Economics practice exams by topic

IB Economics practice questions sorted by the four units of the 2022 syllabus: introduction, microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy. Each unit page has free sample questions with mark-scheme answers where one of our three free IB Economics exams covers it (Paper 1 essays, Paper 2 data response, a Paper 3 HL question), a key-terms list with the formulas typeset, and a door to make a paper on that unit from your own notes. The exams are typeset PDFs you can download without signing up; the answer key is emailed on request.

Frequently asked questions

Are these IB Economics practice exams free?

Yes. The three free IB Economics exams (Paper 1 essays, Paper 2 data response, and a mixed paper with a Paper 3 HL question) can be read online and downloaded as print-ready PDFs with no account. The worked answer key is free too: enter your email on the exam page and it is sent to you. Making a new paper from your own notes uses the generator, which has a free plan.

Which papers do the free exams cover?

Paper 1 (three extended-response questions, one per unit 2 to 4, each with a 10-mark part a and a 15-mark part b), Paper 2 (data response on a text, sat by SL and HL) and one Paper 3-style HL quantitative question with the policy-recommendation element. There is no multiple choice in IB Economics, so none here either.

Can I practise one unit only?

On this page, each unit links to its own topic page with the matching sample questions. To get a whole paper on one unit, open the generator with the IB Economics style, tick that unit in "Pick your exam" and the questions are written from the syllabus outline for that unit; or upload your class notes for it.

Is this for SL or HL?

Both. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are sat by SL and HL students. Paper 3 is HL only, as are a few concepts in the key-terms lists, which are marked HL. Tell the generator your level in the instructions box if you want HL-only content such as the linear demand and supply functions.
