Turn problem sets into a practice exam
Last updated:
By the end of a maths, statistics, economics or physics course you have a stack of problem sets whose answers you already know. ExamTeX reads them and writes new problems of the same kind, so you practise the method instead of recognising the question. Solutions are worked, and everything is typeset in LaTeX.
Short answer
How do I make new practice problems from my problem sets?
Upload the problem sets (PDF, Word or photos) at examtex.com/create, choose calculation, short-answer or graph-analysis questions, and generate. ExamTeX writes fresh problems that use the same methods and topics as the ones you uploaded, with worked solutions, and typesets them in LaTeX as a printable practice exam. It takes about a minute, and the free plan includes 2 exams a month.
How it works
1. Upload the problem sets
Several at once is better: up to 20 files per exam. Include the solutions if you have them, since worked solutions show the method the new problems should follow.
2. Pick calculation-heavy question types
Choose calculation and short-answer questions, with graph analysis for economics or physics. Set the difficulty to “hard” for exam-week practice, or “mixed” to warm up.
3. Work them on paper, check the solutions
Print the exam and work the problems without looking at the old sets. The answer key shows each solution step by step, so a wrong answer tells you where the method went wrong.
What to know
Why new problems, not the old ones again
Redoing a problem set you have already corrected tests memory of that set. New problems on the same methods test whether you can apply the method to numbers and situations you have not seen, which is what the exam does.
Numbers change, methods stay
The generator keeps the type of problem (optimise this, test that hypothesis, find the equilibrium) and changes the setup and values. Where a problem set uses a particular notation, uploading it keeps the new problems in that notation.
Check the solutions, as with any generated material
Worked solutions are produced by the AI and typeset as written. They are usually right and always editable, so if a step looks off, open the question in the editor, fix it, and rebuild the PDF before sharing it with others.
Works with past exam questions too
Problem-type questions from past papers are the same input. Upload them with the problem sets and the practice exam mixes homework-style and exam-style problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which subjects does this work for?
Any subject with calculation or applied problems: calculus, linear algebra, statistics, econometrics, micro- and macroeconomics, finance, physics and chemistry. Equations and derivations are typeset in LaTeX.
Are the solutions worked, or just final answers?
Worked. Calculation questions include the steps; multiple-choice questions include a short explanation of the correct option. You can edit any solution before downloading.
Can I upload photos of handwritten problem sets?
Yes. Upload JPG, PNG or WebP photos; legible handwriting is read and used like typed material. Several photos can go into one exam.
How different are the new problems from mine?
Same methods and topics, different setups and numbers. Ask for “harder than the uploaded problems” or “combine two topics per problem” in the special instructions to push further.
Is it free?
You can try it free, without a card. The free plan includes 2 practice exams a month, with a watermark on the PDF, and generating from the built-in sample notes does not use one of them. Pro costs €9.99 a month for unlimited practice exams without the watermark; the Exam Pass gives you the same for 30 days for a one-time €9.99 and does not renew.
