This free AP Calculus BC practice exam concentrates on the material that separates BC from AB: Taylor and Maclaurin series with the alternating-series and Lagrange error bounds, interval of convergence by the ratio test, parametric arc length, polar area, vector-valued motion, integration by parts and partial fractions, improper integrals, Euler's method and the logistic equation. Students often lose BC points on the endpoints of an interval of convergence, on the missing one-half in a polar area integral, and on error bounds stated without a justification. Every solution shows the working graders look for.

Polar curves. For 0≤θ≤π0 \leq \theta \leq \pi the polar curve r=4sin⁡θr = 4\sin\theta is the circle of radius 22 centered at the point (0,2)(0, 2), and the polar curve r=2r = 2 is the circle of radius 22 centered at the origin. AP Calculus BC exam tips

  • Always test both endpoints of an interval of convergence separately: the ratio test is inconclusive there, and the two endpoints often behave differently (the harmonic series diverges, the alternating harmonic series converges).
  • When you use an alternating series or Lagrange error bound, write the justification in words: "the terms alternate in sign, decrease in absolute value and approach zero" or "the fourth derivative is bounded by M on the interval". The number without the reason scores nothing.
  • Polar area is one-half the integral of r squared; parametric speed is the square root of the sum of the squared derivatives. Write the general formula before substituting: a correct setup earns most of the points even if the arithmetic slips.
  • For a logistic differential equation, read the carrying capacity from the factored form dP/dt = kP(1 - P/K). The growth rate is largest at P = K/2, which is also where the solution curve has its point of inflection.
